Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund Hotel Review: In a city as storied as Shanghai, it’s only fitting that a legendary hotel group take over one of its most historic buildings. Located on the city’s renowned waterfront, the former Shanghai Club has been transformed into the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund. This neo-classical building was constructed in 1911, and after an extensive restoration, it now houses the Waldorf Astoria Club---an exclusive collection of twenty colonial-style suites with signature Waldorf poster beds, claw-foot bathtubs and other period details. In addition, 252 guest rooms and suites can be found in the newly built Waldorf Astoria Tower, located across a central courtyard. Views from both buildings look onto heritage sites and the space-age Pudong district across the river. In its efforts to recreate Old Shanghai, the Waldorf Astoria has rejuvenated the Long Bar (boasting the longest bar in the east when it first opened) and tucked an exotic Chinese restaurant into its attic space. In addition, the Grand Brasserie celebrates the classic European brasserie experience, Pelham’s brings a taste of New York City to the Orient, Salon de Ville provides a charming setting for tea and desserts, and Peacock Alley pays tribute to its namesake venue at the Waldorf=Astoria New York. The hotel also has conference and function space, a library and even a florist.
