Old Course Hotel Golf Resort & Spa Review: Indulge your life-long golf fantasy and sojourn to St Andrews. Bordering Scotland's oldest university town, the hotel (a Kohler property), with its mythical views of the Fife coastline, is a dreamy site to behold. Make the drive from Edinburgh, fly into Dundee from London City (just 15 minutes) or arrange to use the hotel helipad. Take your pick from 144 guest bedrooms including 35 suites---furnishings can vary from the more modern to the more traditional (some given a complete transformation by designer, Jacques Garcia). Of course, expect Kohler to dominate in the bathrooms. Many rooms offer views of the Old Course towards St Andrews, others of the beach (where Chariots of Fire was filmed), or the fields and surrounding hills. For golfers and non-golfers alike, the Kohler Water Spa delights with therapeutic treatments. 11 treatment rooms see to your every need; there is a crystal steam room, thermal suite with hydrotherapy pool, Japanese steam room, Laminar flow showers and plunge pool. Relax on the rooftop deck after the signature "Highland Fling," the Old Course Hotel's version of the Scottish dance---mimicked here as a treatment with "mistical energy." The historical Duke's golf course is just a five minute drive from the Old Course Hotel and the Par 71 hearthland course features the best of Scottish golf, including hitting your way through the gorse, old-style bunkering, new greens and a several hole redesign. Après golf, head to the legendary Road Hole Bar where 200 malts await and a view of the oldest and most famous hole in golf, the 17th. Or, head to The Jigger Inn, the onsite traditional Scottish pub. Two on-property restaurants Road Hole Grill (think Shetland organic salmon with crushed minted peas, beetroot and horseradish puree) and Sands (the more casual counterpart) more than suffice.
