THIS ESTABLISHMENT HAS BECOME COURTHOUSE DOUBLETREE BY HILTON LONDON - REGENT STREET Courthouse Hotel London Review: Mick Jagger and John Lennon once stayed here. Well, sort of. Before this property's transformation to a hotel it was the Great Marlborough Street Magistrate's Court, site of the first obscenity trial for a comic book in English history (Lennon) and Jagger's trial for alleged pot possession. Great use has been made of the court's history, incorporating it into various aspects of the hotel --- three private booths in the bar are former women's cells, iron bars separate the lobby lounge from the bar, Silk restaurant is in the old Number One Court, suites are housed in former judges' robing rooms and the Lalique Suite was once the London residence of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner. A new wing was built for the standard guest rooms (complete with Zebrano wood door paneling and Birdseye Maple furniture) on the site of the former police station, holding cells and shooting range. Accommodations for business guests include desks that extend into boardroom tables and beds that disappear into walls for a more corporate atmosphere. All rooms come with laptop safes, air-conditioning, two line phones with voice mail and Wi-Fi, which is offered throughout the hotel. The underground health spa has a full gym, swimming pool and two aluminum treatment rooms with glass floors, one of which is suspended over the pool --- and no, you can't peek in. Additional dining includes Carnaby, serving modern French cuisine. Of note: the screening room with 100 apple green leather chairs.
