Hotel Verta Hotel Review: Famed for its country house hotels, the von Essen group has opened up a decadent, aviation-inspired property on the banks of the River Thames. Catering to both corporate guests and romancing couples, this sleek, glass building curves around the river adjacent to the London Heliport, so guests will find helicopters landing and taking off outside their rooms. Fret not, triple-glazing and blackout blinds ensure that not a sound or a beam of light will disturb. Upon arrival, guests step through the hotel doors into a space that sings of 1930s glamour. Subtle references to air travel are scattered throughout the hotel, from brass-framed photos of jet-setters to a vintage helicopter flight map by reception and London A-Z maps folded into paper planes in the bathrooms. Seventy individually-designed bedrooms and suites are furnished in what the hotel calls "classically modern," but are in fact more Art Deco splashed with huge chunks of color, rich velvets and stitched headboards that would make Austin Powers feel right at home. Rooms are high-tech with TVs in the bathrooms and lighting designed to enhance moods at different times of day. For guests who have the cash to spare, helicopter transfers to and from airports, companies and homes can be arranged.
