Holiday Inn Mexico City Zocalo Hotel Review: This Holiday Inn is housed within two connected but distinct buildings, superbly situated just a block off the Zocalo. While the hotel's main entryway is situated on the ground floor of a twentieth-century building on Cinco de Mayo street, the hotel also occupies the adjoining seventeenth-century building. From the latter, guest rooms look over the city's gorgeous central square. Rooms are clean, comfortable, and equipped with nice marble bathrooms and wireless Internet. The decoration offers a bit more pizzazz than you'd usually expect to find in a Holiday Inn, with high ceilings and wood floors, as well as a few special touches like carved wooden headboards and talavera pottery. For bedrooms that overlook the Zocalo, remember that noise can be a problem during the city's big festivals. The view from the rooftop restaurant is spectacular, overlooking the National Palace and cathedral. For special events, the hotel's banquet room and conference halls are well-equipped for any type of event, and some boast lovely views as well. For those who want to immerse themselves in colonial architecture but want the conveniences of a modern hotel, the property is a good bet.
