Montreal Marriott Chateau Champlain Hotel Review: This hotel has an excellent downtown location, situated around the corner from the green spaces of the Place du Canada and the Square Dorchester, as well as the sea-green spires of the Cathedral Marie-Reine Du Monde. From here, guests are a short walk from Old Montreal, the Bell Center, several museums and the shopping centers of downtown. The hotel itself is a part of the city’s skyline, boasting 36 stories, 592 guestrooms and nineteen suites. Fully aware of its important presence in the tableau of downtown Montreal, the hotel takes every design opportunity to highlight it. Guest rooms are graced with enormous, crescent-shaped windows that are ultimately the focus of attention, particularly on higher floors where views go from impressive to breathtaking. On the north side of the building, windows face a conglomeration of skyscrapers and the façade of Mont Royal, while to the south guests look out onto the St. Laurence River and its centuries-old ports. Rooms do well not to distract from the views, opting for subtle color and unostentatious furnishings. Though they are not overly spacious, light cascading in from open drapes creates an airy feeling. Graceful floral patters on bedding works well when juxtaposed by the simple palette used on the carpeting and drapery. The hotel’s meeting rooms are some of the most elegant in the city and draw corporate as well as private functions year-round.
