This Napa Valley resort, whose French name translates to "Inn of the Sun," consistently turns up on respected lists of the world's finest hotels. The plaudits are deserved: it is, quite simply, the creme-de-la-creme of Wine Country lodging. Adobe-style buildings nestled throughout the wooded property contain a total of 50 guestrooms, most of which offer breathtaking views of vineyards, olive trees and hills. Standard rooms measure 500 square feet and boast handsome terra-cotta tile floors and feature fireplaces and stocked wet bars. Suites are more than twice this size; private cottages are the size of comfortable homes. All guests receive complimentary wine and other goodies upon arrival, and enjoy access to the inn's private tennis courts. Near these courts, a large area was transformed in May 2007 into an outdoor living room called La Plage; its centerpiece, the pool, glows with a pebble-sheen floor inlaid with Italian mosaic tiles and mother-of-pearl. The 7,000-square-foot Auberge Spa is exclusively reserved for guest use. In addition, the on-site Auberge du Soleil restaurant is home to a lovely outdoor patio with the best view of any restaurant in Napa. |
