Room at The Bowery Hotel, New York, NYFrom the creators of the uber-hip Maritime hotel comes the Bowery. You’ll find no Eames chairs or modular benches in this new Manhattan hotel. They’ve traded in Philippe Starck for Mrs. Astor’s classically cosmopolitan drawing room. The lighting is purposefully low, the Oriental rugs elegant and worn and the bellhops are clad in red vests and black bowties. The doors to this faux Gilded Age hotel opened in March 2007, with the now-trendy trattoria, Gemma, following a few months later. Its style is unmatched but so are its plentiful amenities: 24-hour room service, C. O. Bigelow bath amenities (the oldest apothecary-pharmacy in the U.S.), iPod stereos, HDTV and DVD, 400-thread-count linens and big, wide windows. The Bowery Boys are long gone, but there’s far more fabulous New York to be discovered on the Bowery now.
