Singita Ebony Lodge Hotel Review: Founder Luke Bailes changed the way visitors think about safaris when he opened his luxurious Singita Ebony Lodge 22 years ago. In 2015 the accommodations on the 45,000-acre Sabi Sand reserve re-opened after an extensive renovation. The 12 tent suites manage to blend the feel of a classic safari lodge with contemporary features and amenities for an updated, but still very authentic visitor experience. Interiors are furnished in “New Nomad” style with an eclectic collection of artifacts and antiques, animal print textiles, sepia photos and polished ebony wood — a reference to the trees that line the site. Each suite includes its own en-suite bathroom and private plunge pool. Suspended outdoor pavilion decks that appear to hang from the trees overlooking the Sand River offer prime game-viewing vantage points. Swap stories with other travelers over an evening cocktail within the lodge’s central hub. All meals and beverages, twice-daily safari excursions, laundry service and road transfers are included in the price of the stay; spa treatments and Champagne can be arranged for an extra charge.
