Room at Casa Ybel Sanibel Island Resort, Sanibel Island, FLThis is most definitely a destination for couples. Weddings are common events, and happy couples often stay on for their honeymoons---packages are available for both nuptials and post-ceremony stays. The beaches of Sanibel Island offer some of the best seashells in the world. Shell collectors can often be seen, looking down, scouring the sand. It’s best, though, to look up as nightfall nears, since the sunsets here are world-famous. For guests who want to do more than comb the beaches, there are bicycles, a heated pool, a hot tub and water sport/beach gear rentals. You’ll also find fishing, tennis, shuffleboard and a kid’s program. One- and two-bedroom suites include sleeper lofts in the living rooms and fully equipped kitchens. Amenities include cable TV, coffee makers, hair dryers and more. But perhaps the best amenity is the sound of the surf lapping at the shore. The on-site restaurant, Thistle Lodge Beachfront, has long been popular with area residents as well as tourists. The menu emphasizes seafood, of course, but there are also steaks and chef specials nightly.
