This former Westin turned Marriott is just a couple of left turns from the Lihue Airport, and is a laid back property with plenty of activities for all ages. It has a great location in Lihue on the lovely quarter mile-long beach fronting Kalapaki Bay with views of Nawiliwili Harbor and offers a convenient central location from which to enjoy everything the Garden Island has to offer. Rooms are small with a mix of Hawaiian and contemporary American chain-style décor. But the lovely swimming pool (actually, it's Kauai's largest), extensive grounds and interesting Asian and Pacific art (a welcome holdover from the Westin days) stay true to the tropical surroundings. Among the many restaurants is Duke's Canoe Club, an open-air seafood and steak joint, and Cafe Portofino, serving Italian food on the beach promenade. Some great perks are locally grown coffee with in-room coffee makers and wireless Internet that even reaches poolside for surfing the web while you soak in the sun. |
