The best feature at the Outrigger's flagship property is its central location on the beach in the middle of Waikiki. Though it has good company on the popular beachfront, it strives to differentiate itself from the typical resort destination. Special cultural programs are held on topics such as native medicinal herbs, music and lei-making. There are also the expected Waikiki amenities: spa services, surf lessons, a fitness room, and a casual eatery-bar on the beach---Duke's Canoe Club. Duke's is a good place for toasting the sunset, listening to live musicians and mingling with locals. Other dining options include the oceanfront Hula Grill Waikiki and Chuck's Steak House. A recent $20 million renovation brought classic Hawaiian touches---taro leaf patterns, original works by local artists, historic photos, a non-smoking policy and a lobby exhibit space. There are 525 guestrooms in the hotel and we recommend you spring for one with a lanai overlooking the lively beach below. All feature air conditioning, voice mail and turndown service on request. |
