 This eye-catching Art Deco structure was built in 1933 as the Lady Windemere, a seaside apartment that served as a secluded retreat for many movie stars of the time. During prohibition, the Georgian was home to one of L.A.'s first speakeasies. In 1997, a $5 million renovation was completed, re-creating and enhancing the original 1930s ambience. The 56 spacious rooms and 28 one-bedroom suites are laid out to offer maximum ocean exposure, with most offering panoramic coastline views---all have windows which open to let in the relaxing ocean breeze, and the ocean is a short walk right down the hill. Amenities include TV, mini bars, in-room coffee makers with Starbucks coffee and most importantly, complimentary high-speed wireless Internet access. Guests and their visitors enjoy breakfast in the 90-seat historic Speakeasy, once the favorite hangout for Bugsy Siegel, Carol Lombard, Clark Gable and Fatty Arbuckle. Meeting space for business and informal gatherings offers pre-function and break areas with fresh ocean breezes and sunsets overlooking Santa Monica Bay. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been spotted here hosting power breakfasts and enjoying evening sunsets on the veranda. The Georgian is pet friendly, welcoming dogs and cats up to 50 pounds for an extra nightly fee. |
