Somewhere between modern American and classic British lies the décor of Viceroy, formerly Pacific Shores Hotel. Kelly green, dark gray, black and bright white is the color scheme for the blend of antique furniture and modern touches found throughout the premises. China plates and an oversized cameo adorn the walls of the lobby, filled with white-leather lounges and furry rugs. Porcelain dogs greet you at the elevator doors and the halls are papered with sleek Mylar featuring a fuzzy, embossed pattern for added texture and interest. The interior design may not be understated, but nevertheless a soothing calm prevails in the guest rooms and an ocean view is just the ticket for this beach hideaway. Rooms feature custom armoires, Lucite and glass tables and beds with luxury linens. The hotel is well situated in Santa Monica: one block from the beach and just a few from the Santa Monica Promenade shopping area. A library is located off the lobby, also featuring a surprising and curious décor but this time with a mustard-yellow and brown theme. A number of interesting touches can be found in this recreational area: two plunge pools are out back amid chaises and private cabanas, and a fitness center is available with equipment and free weights. The hotel's restaurant, Whist, offers American cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the Cameo Bar will cure your thirst. |
