This old standard showcases one of the nicest hotel renovations to hit the area in a long time. Once reliable but somewhat bland, it's now stylish, with sleek guestrooms and a pool area with a retro Palm Springs feel to it. Just four blocks from the beach, it offers 307 accommodations with Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Beds (naturally), ebony furnishings, crisp white linens and complementary oceanic hues. Many have large private terraces that resemble stair steps traveling down the whitewashed side of the building. West-facing terraces overlook the neighborhood down to the water. Cabana rooms can accommodate up to four, and four of the suites have Jacuzzis on their terraces. According to the hotel, it is the only one in Santa Monica to boast ocean-view jacuzzi suites. The three-story atrium lobby is decorated with vintage photos of Santa Monica, and off to one side you'll find Perla Restaurant, featuring organic spa breakfast and California/American cuisine. A selection of business amenities includes in-room work spaces with high-speed Internet access, meeting rooms and a penthouse ballroom overlooking the coastline and Santa Monica Mountains. There is a 24-hour fitness center. The hotel is tucked into the desirable Ocean Park neighborhood, a residential enclave of vintage beach houses set above funky Main Street overlooking the Pacific. |
