 In a city where facelifts don't always work out the way one hopes they will, this family-owned motel has nothing to worry about. A groovy remodel turned it from a comfy old standard to a hip retreat that can compete with the properties up on the Sunset Strip. First impressions matter: just check out the fun gingham paint job on the exterior, along with the cute silhouette of a farmer's daughter (what else?) wielding her watering can. Inside, a lobby---whose front counter could easily be mistaken for a trendy bar---opens onto a Zen-like courtyard with a pool and Adirondack-style chairs arranged in small seating areas. The rooms are cleverly decorated with lattice headboards, brightly painted desk chairs and folksy accents such as wooden chickens. All accommodations come with free high-speed Internet access and is also set up with WiFi. There is also a small meeting room that can hold up to 25. In keeping with the sassy lassie theme, the onsite, American fusion restaurant is named Tart. Plus, the Farmer's Market is right across the street, as is the Grove shopping center, with plenty of other restaurants, shops and movie theaters to choose from. |
