| Opened in 1959, this tranquil Old-World-style lodging reflects the mood of the 19th-century French Quarter. It is family owned and blends the best of the chains (good prices, reliably comfy rooms and service) with the charms of a small, independent hotel (atmosphere, friendliness and individuality). The ample parking and modern lobby bring to mind an upscale motel. But overall this place was designed to blend into the 19th-century look of Chartres Street. With its cobblestone driveway and period décor, it manages to embrace the traditions of the neighborhood. It has 100 rooms furnished with antique and reproduction pieces. Splashes of color offer bright accents, and singular touches include exposed brick walls and cypress beams. The five courtyards are home to two swimming pools. |
