On the other end of the spectrum from its gleaming sister hotel across town, this quiet, boutique-style landmark property was built in 1931 at the far eastern reaches of 42nd Street. After undergoing major recent overhauls, it now gleams with dark-wood furnishings and public spaces rich in greenery. The hotel, formerly the Crowne Plaza, offers lots of personal extras in its 300, mostly non-smoking rooms. Each has two dual-line phones with data ports, Wi-Fi, CD players, pant presses, safes and coffeemakers, plus Italian marble bathrooms equipped with the usual amenities. Executive rooms go one step further with their whirlpool tubs and bidets. Facilities include a fitness center that is open 24-hours and a business center. Cecil’s serves Continental cuisine. A lounge is adjacent. |
