Irish hospitality and history give spirit to this Midtown hotel, which is owned and operated by the Fitzpatrick family. It's ideally situated only two blocks from Bloomingdale's and within walking distance of most of Midtown's major sights. Step in from Lexington Avenue and you'll find yourself in a kelly green lobby with Waterford chandeliers and fresh flowers. The 92 rooms and suites are quietly elegant with Chippendale furnishings and floral-printed bedspreads. Room amenities include all the basics plus modem hookups and fax machines. VCRs and exercise bicycles are available on request. Fitzers restaurant serves Irish specialties (oak-smoked salmon and chicken in an Irish whiskey sauce). The traditional Irish breakfast, which is served all day, is legendary and includes bacon and sausage, black-and-white pudding and brown soda bread. The bar offers some rare whiskies from the Emerald Isle, plus occasional Irish musical entertainment. Big surprise: the hotel staff is mostly Irish. So are the newspapers---the daily Irish Times and The Irish Independent, plus the weekly Irish Echo and Irish Voice. Guests have free use of a fitness center nearby. |
