 This 49-story hotel comes in Las Vegas proportions, with 1,892 guest rooms and 57 suites, three restaurants and two lounges. It takes up an entire city block and has hunkered over Times Square since 1985. The 37-story-high atrium lobby---the world's largest---is in itself a tourist attraction. It's a glitzy chrome-and-aluminum amusement park complete with a revolving lounge, faux foliage and glass-enclosed elevators that zoom up and down at breakneck speeds. The oversized accommodations are all surprisingly quiet and are labeled The Room that Works with their large console table with two power outlets, a PC modem jack, a moveable task light and an ergonomic chair. Upstairs on the 47th floor, The View restaurant has been given a complete $4 million makeover. The views, as ever, are terrific. Other dining choices include a sushi bar and a buffet and a la cart restauarant. If you want to ring in the New Year on Times Square, consider reserving for the Party Within A Party, the hotel's annual New Year's gala, complete with Champagne, dinner, dancing, entertainment and a laser light show. |
