This YMCA was established as a men’s residence in November 1875 in the basement of the New York Rail Station. Named for benefactor Cornelius Vanderbilt, it predates most buildings in its venerable neighborhood, and it is certainly one of the most inexpensive places you can rest your head. For value, the clean, friendly, air-conditioned environment excels. The 370 rooms have TVs (although) the bathrooms are down the hall, and the amazing facilities include a restaurant with room service, a gift shop and tour desk, and meeting and conference space. The fitness center offers weights, a running track and two swimming pools. There's also daily housekeeping service and 24-hour security. |
