Under the direction of Willow Hotels, this 1931 gem was made over in 2004 by Annette Jaffe, a residential designer whose goal was to create a homey un-hotel-like atmosphere. A second renovation is underway. The 50 guestrooms are small and have a French country house meets urban feel, painted in Tiffany box blue and decorated with original photographic works by acclaimed fashion photographer Deborah Turbeville. Rooms come stocked with Bvlgari bath products and Frette cotton terry bathrobes, and---in the superior and deluxe accommodations---LCD TVs and iHome radios for iPod. The cozy breakfast room, reminiscent of an English teahouse, is the setting for a complimentary European buffet breakfast that includes a lovely spread of cheeses, meats and pastries. In the early evenings, unwind with a newspaper in the reading room, the music of Tony Bennett softly sways, a plate of goodies from the complimentary wine and artisinal cheese and wine reception at your fingertips. 24-hour espresso and cappuccino service is available, and, on the non-culinary side of things, WiFi throughout the hotel. Even pets are welcome. |
