This hotel is steeped in Old World elegance. In 1927 when it opened, the press remarked that it was Italian in architecture, French in spirit and American in price. The lobby is modeled after the Vatican library and lavish with hand-loomed rugs, chandeliers and marble friezes taken from the Vanderbilt mansion. The wood-paneled elevators are still manned by white-gloved attendants in full livery. It's been a favorite haven for many a Hollywood star, from Danny Kaye and George Burns to Dean Martin and Jim Henson. Complimentary flowers and wine welcome each guest to the 54 rooms and suites. (There are also 100 apartments for permanent residents.) All are spacious and individually decorated. Some have fireplaces, and in the winter you couldn't want for anything cozier--especially with the in-room VCRs and the hotel's extensive video library from which to choose. On the premises is Harry Cipriani restaurant, kin to the famous Harry's Bar in Venice. Courtesy perks include Godiva chocolates, shoe shine service, mineral water and access to a nearby fitness center. Service is courteous and personalized for both travelers and the hotel's many permanent residents. Official Site - The Luxurious Central Park NYC Sherry-Netherland Hotel |
