 The pace here is smooth and efficient, the surroundings handsome and elegant, and the ambience distinctly French. The three-story atrium lobby (complete with artwork by controversial Brit Damien Hirst) may be impressive, but the definite selling point is the gargantuan 43rd-floor health club and spa, Gravity, which has an excess of exercise equipment, racquetball and squash courts, a heated swimming pool and a rooftop jogging track and sundeck with a fabulous view. The 730 rooms are attractively decorated with Biedermeier-style furniture set against a neutral oatmeal/café-au-lait palette. All have numerous amenities: telephones with data port/modems, high-speed Internet access, VCRs, CD players and more. Suites have fully equipped kitchens and spectacular views of Central Park. One of the largest concierge staffs in the city excels at securing entry to the city's trendiest venues. On the other hand, one can eat a great meal on the premises. Seppi's, for example, imparts an appropriate bistro feel, down to its butcher-paper-topped tables and slate board menus of Italian-French fare. Shimmering metal and natural wood, comfortable banquettes and leather chairs set the tone for Norma's, popular for its indulgent all-day breakfasts. For one of the best burgers served up in one of the most hidden burger bars in town, turn left at the concierge desk and head toward the picture of the burger.
