 Morris Lapidus, architect of Miami's famed Fontainebleau hotel, built this sea-green hotel in the early 1960s. Then it seemed oddly out of place. But now that futuristic boutique hotels are the norm, it's right at home. The interior has undergone many incarnations over the years (a new lobby was installed in 2004), the most recent led by the Doubletree group. Soothing tones and low-key contemporary décor set the tone in the bedrooms: surprisingly stylish in a hotel clearly catering to the business crowd. The spacious accommodations come with goose down duvets, 24-inch flat screen TVs and large work desks; some of the suites even have big pied-à-terre balconies. Met Grill serves classic American fare in a casual Art-Deco setting. |
