This Victorian gem is a few blocks from downtown but forms a little world of its own, recalling Santa Barbara's past. It was built in 1871, has been lovingly cared for and claims to be the oldest continuously operating hotel in Southern California. We recommend the five charming cottages in the garden, each with a fireplace and private porch. Most luxurious is the Master Suite with a Jacuzzi tub and private yard complete with a hammock. Each of the 50 rooms includes a private bath and exudes a delightful nineteenth-century ambience, with high ceilings and decorative fixtures. But décor also respects modern sensibilities, and instead of typical B&B floral wallpapers, is characterized by stunning designer paint in solid colors. Afternoon wine and cheese are served around the fireplace or on the veranda, and the room rates include breakfast. Well-regarded Louie's restaurant (see Restaurants) is located off the lobby, and there's year-round outdoor dining. Four meeting rooms can accommodate up to 60 people. |
