This 1912 Craftsman home actually was a yacht club; after a 1920s storm washed away the original club, this home became the new one and it was moved to its current spot near East Beach. In 1980, it earned the distinction of becoming Santa Barbara's first B&B. Fresh flowers and a decanter of sherry are placed in every guestroom, and each accommodation (with its own bathroom and telephone) is unique, although all are done in a frilly B&B style with competing floral fabrics and busy wallpapers. Elegant four-poster beds, antique brass beds, whirlpool tubs and fireplaces are some of the extras you may also find. Much larger and more private, suites have the same overwhelming décor as basic rooms. The cottage is ideal for honeymoons and other special occasions. In addition to offering complimentary full gourmet breakfast, the inn hosts an evening social hour where guests can mingle and enjoy beverages and wine. A five-course dinner is served on Saturday nights; ask about weekend dinner packages. Bicycles, beach chairs and towels are free for guests to borrow. Note that a two- or three-night minimum stay is required. |
