Cool, contemporary and undeniably original, this eccentric hotel is a stark contrast to its Victorian-dominated surroundings. At the same time, it is a testament to the unique personalities that make up this cosmopolitan community. Each of the 105 guest rooms is inspired by one of the four elements—--Earth, Wind, Water and Fire. Standard amenities include complimentary high-speed wireless Internet access and in-room mini-refrigerators. In keeping with its chosen theme, rooms are outfitted in custom-made furniture and whimsical knick-knacks that fight for space and, sometimes, make the accommodations feel cluttered. While at times overwhelming, the hotel is fun and anything but traditional. Perhaps the property’s most attractive feature is the ground-floor restaurant, Farmer Brown, which serves upscale soul food using local California ingredients. The bedrooms designed just for kids (bunk beds and all) are also notable. |
