| Built in 1912, this Tenderloin property attracts a mostly young, arty clientele willing to sacrifice upscale amenities for affordability. While Union Square, the Theater District and Chinatown are within three blocks of the hotel, newcomers should note that the hotel is located in what many consider the city's grittiest-looking---though not necessarily dangerous---neighborhood. But inside, the lobby is brightly colored and airy and lined with pieces of contemporary art. The small guest rooms feature basic amenities, but may be somewhat cramped and offer little room for spreading out. Despite the lack of creature comforts, the hotel is clean, inexpensive and in a central location that many tourists will appreciate. |
