This hotel is affectionately (or not) referred to as the Jukebox by locals because of its scalloped shape. It opened on October 17, 1989, the day the city experienced its second-most-famous earthquake. It sits in a great location, at one corner of the Yerba Buena Gardens, near the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Moscone Convention Center. This hotel is huge. The atrium lobby is five stories high, and there are 1,500 guest rooms. Public areas are handsome, adorned with lots of marble, splashing fountains and brass trim. Following a $12-million facelift in 2008, the hotel lobby and public spaces offer guests plenty of space to meet, mingle and work outside the confines of their rooms. Standard guest room amenities include LCD televisions, work desks, granite-topped vanities in the bathrooms and down comforters. On-site restaurants are plentiful, and The View lounge affords spectacular vistas through an arched three-story window. |
