1 Dominick Restaurant Review

: Set just off Hudson Square, Jimmy Carbone’s 1 Dominick is at once a laid-back café that serves comfort-minded breakfast dishes (frittatas, Italian pastries, seasonal fruit with ricotta) and a casual-chic café serving up a chalkboard-size menu of Italian snacks. Creamy burrata would be best on its own---not covered in fresh arugula and radishes---and the scarpetta di calamari, a mountain of squid, pine nuts, black olives and spicy Calabrian sausage, is a meal in itself (and, like many of the dishes, authentically marred by over-saltiness). The cheese and meat plates are always a good bet. So are the sandwiches, including the fried mortadella tramezzino and the creamy black-truffle-sprinkled mozzarella panino. The glass façade slides open, making whiling away a warm evening with a bottle of wine and some casual Italian dishes an appealing thought.
