French chef Eric Ripert has broadened his base (as well as his all-fish repertoire), opening spots in the Caribbean, The Ritz-Carlton in D.C., and now in Philly where he's the creative force behind 10 Arts, across from City Hall. With homegrown chef de cuisine Jennifer Carroll (former sous chef to Ripert at New York's Le Bernardin) at the helm, Ripert has conceived a fetching, New American menu, with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients, swanky comfort food, creative cocktails and an approachable wine list. Slurp oysters, or munch on a first-rate grilled octopus ceviche with onion confit. Move on to the striped bass Grande Mere, a standout with its pairing of pearl onions and earthy wild mushrooms. There's also a decadent mac ‘n’ cheese and a brasserie-worthy grilled flat iron steak. Pork and beans uses none other than pork belly, and chicken is stuffed with country bread taking on a comfort food feel. Make sure you don't fill up on the pretzels (easy to do). Ripert's version of a Philly favorite are delivered fluffy, salty, soft and warm with jalapeño jam and Dijon mustard. The lobby restaurant’s colorful, modern holographic columns strike a dramatic note within the former bank’s lofty space. |
