No. 10 Water Restaurant Review: Those looking for the classic New England dining experience usually go one of two ways: the roadside clam shack or a cozy yet elegant inn with plenty of history and upscale fare. While there are other dining choices in this small resort town, No. 10 Water in on the "finer" end of the scale. Start with sausage and littleneck clams in a mellow broth of tomatoes, sweet onions and white wine, then the lobster hash with leeks, bacon, tarragon and corn mingled with sweet fresh-off-the-boat lobster meat. The menu is heavy on meat choices with braised short rib and double pork chops, but a blackened haddock is more intriguing, the spicy dry rub a good contrast to a sweet fish. Desserts are simple --- an apple crisp with vanilla ice cream brings in the harvest while a more exotic banana cream tart with caramel sauce warms up a winter night. The wine list is quite inexpensive and covers primarily California vintages with some old-world bottles as well. |
