| It’s no longer the new kid on the square, but 1111 continues to be a popular lunchtime destination for downtown office workers nonetheless. This is especially noteworthy because in the years since its opening, downtown has seen a boom in new restaurants. In the evenings a steady stream of regulars savors wild boar ravioli, pizzas from the oak-fired oven and braised or bacon-wrapped comfort food. Owners Paul and Wendy Hamilton even manage to make game-wary St. Louis eaters beeline for signature-braised rabbit with creamy polenta. The dessert menu features local favorite gooey butter cake, which is perfect with a tall glass of milk to cut the rich sweetness. The wine director has a wide-ranging selection of old- and new-world choices that consistently pair well with the food. |
