THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro Restaurant Review:
Downtown Torrance is home to this 150-seat gastropub, the inaugural effort of MOD Restaurant Group. The warm interior is accented by exposed Edison light bulbs, dark woods and several leather booths. Along the rear wall, books line the shelves that surround a flat screen TV showing black and white vintage movies. A double-sided wall separates the dining room from the bar, so happy hour noise doesn’t interfere with customers at tables. Classic burgers and salads are available, but the more exciting dishes include a crusty flatbread with creamy burrata and basil, and tacos with sautéed calamari and green chile crema. Spatchcock chicken is tender and moist, accompanied by caramelized baby Brussels sprouts, while the lamb spare ribs are slow-cooked, their gamey flavor offset by peppery, slightly bitter green beans. The globally-sourced beer list includes the entire line of brews from Placentia, California’s cult-favorite The Bruery.
