The Financial District is becoming New York's downtown culture cluster---with the Museum of Jewish Heritage, the National Museum of the American Indian, the ferries to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Besides being an obvious magnet for business folk, 2 West is a good option after a day of absorbing history. Luckily, the food is better than the hotel-restaurant décor will lead you to believe. Innovative presentation distinguishes the dishes, but nothing is wacky enough to scare Bob from Accounting. It's all safe and satisfactory, from the refreshing lobster Cobb salad with turkey bacon and avocado, to a tender Australian Kobe rib-eye steak. Start or end the meal with a drink at the 14th-floor Rise bar; the cocktails are well mixed and the view of New York Harbor mesmerizing. In summer, seats are also set up on the outdoor plaza---watch the sun set through the archway entrance to the riverside park across the street.
