Located on the second level of the contemporary Walker Art Center, 20.21 is stylishly minimalist (some might say it’s just plain stark). But we think---when looking out its floor-to-ceiling windows toward one of the best city skyline views---maybe there was a method to the designer’s madness. After all, why add a bunch of distractions when you’ve got a stunner view outside and Wolfgang Puck’s Asian-inspired California cuisine to showcase inside? Among appetizers, the pan-toasted pot stickers are delicate and silky; eaten with a drip of black vinegar sauce and hit of chili oil, we could probably make a meal of them and a 20.21 Bellini with passion fruit purée. Our favorite entrée? The miso-saké-glazed cod wins hands down, although the Szechwan-style, grilled prime beef tenderloin ranks high, too. For the finale, first-timers shouldn’t miss the signature Spoon, Cube & Cherry creation---a mini dessert masterpiece of edible art consisting of chocolate cream, German chocolate cake and sour cherry sauce. (It’s inspired by the Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, which is located across the street from the Walker.) |
