Ford Fry and Drew Belline teamed up to reconfigure former Eurasia Bistro space into an upbeat contemporary venue. The noise level can be quite offputting at dinner, so go early to avoid the pell mell or savor the place at lunch. (Sound-tempering panels are said to be on the way). Local produce takes center stage in Italian-inspired preparations that make great snacks or robust meals. We love the slowly cooked-until-creamy cannellini beans, their flavor and texture enhanced by braised cavolo nero (black kale), chilies and olive oil. House-made ricotta joined forces with preserved wild mushrooms--Belline loves foraging for them--parsley and lemon. Magnificent charcuterie comes from Rusty Bowers' Pine Street Market, just a few miles away; the coppa is outstanding. Vegetables also star in the pasta dishes, such as the butternut squash-stuffed agnolotti topped with shaved hazelnuts. At dinner, you can get half orders, and we find them plenty generous. Pizza and meat, chicken or fish-centered mains also are offered, with prices at or under $20. For dessert, the chocolate tart with sea salt and olive oil hits high notes, but we're eager to sample the muscadine sorbet. The wine list shows a decided Italian slant, no matter where the wines originate. One complaint: White wines were served way too cold. But reds, cooled to about 62F, were perfect. Bring your own, if you wish, as corkage is just $10.
