31Ten Lounge Restaurant Review

: This Santa Monica space has some history --- it was formerly Caché Restaurant & Lounge, Hidden Restaurant before that, and Schatzi On Main if you go back even further. Current tenant 31Ten Lounge has also undergone many changes and it continues to evolve with Joseph Murray assuming general manager duties and chef Michael Wilson --- of 5 Dudley in Venice and Wilson in Culver City --- bringing a more serious approach to the food. The seductively lit indoor-outdoor setting has various areas to meet and mingle, but don't expect traditional dining tables. Rather, revelers can step up to the bar or relax on couches clustered around a fire pit. The eclectic menu offers snacks and small plates like smelt fries with sriracha mayo; diver scallop and calamari ceviche; and octopus carpaccio. The wild boar sliders are a must-order, and don't over look the tacos. For larger appetites, there are steak frites and a signature burger. The kitchen closes around 10:30 p.m. but the very good wood-fired pizzas are served until 2 a.m. We recommend the 4 Stagioni with tomato sauce, mozzarella, porcini mushrooms, peppers, olives, eggplant and truffled ham. The wine list is limited, so seek out cocktails such as the Xalapa, in which jalapeño gives a kick to a concoction of Don Julio Blanco tequila, Patron Citronge, agave nectar and lemon and lime juice. DJs start spinning at 10 p.m.
