34 Restaurant Review:

Art Deco elegance with burnt-orange banquettes and wood floors turns a meal at comfortable, skillfully run 34 into an occasion for the American visitors and well-heeled locals who largely make up the clientele. It began as a steak restaurant, but has added to the Wagyu, dry-aged Scotch rib-eye and USDA Prime to offer a much broader selection. So start with a tangy minted broad bean soup with feta salsa, cured jamon Ibérico or the surprising salt-baked beets with watermelon, feta and wood sorrel. Meat is chargrilled on a traditional Argentine parrilla and ranges from a burger with dill relish to those steaks and Dover sole. Other main dishes might be roast loin of lamb or fillet of cod with a crab couscous, piquillo peppers and lemon dressing. If it complements your choice, try the side of burnt carrots with honey and garlic crisps. Desserts satisfy with greengage tart with pink gooseberry ice cream scoring highly, though the sundae goes down a treat with visitors. It may be corporate dining but it’s very good with top service and live jazz in the evening a bonus. 3-course lunch £34.
