42nd Street Oyster Bar & Seafood Restaurant Review:

Raleigh’s 42nd Street epitomizes the themed eatery capable of handling large volumes of people. Noisy, cavernous and bustling, it offers an ambience that’s something of a cross between Art Deco club and corner fish market, where young professionals, local politicians and out-of-towners rub shoulders at lunch and after work. Oysters on the half shell from the NC coast to Chesapeake Bay and Washington State are featured. After a half dozen, try the seafood bisque, then move on to chef David Greenwell’s simple seafood offerings --- steamed shrimp, oyster stew, plain grilled or fried fish --- or try the baked oyster specialties (Rockefeller, Casino and 42nd Street with spicy butter and bacon). Steak and chicken are options for the seafood averse. Standard desserts include apple pie with rum sauce, cheesecake and Key lime pie. The bar features an impressive list of American and local craft beers, and the lengthy wine list offers a nice selection of familiar labels at reasonable prices. 42nd Street has a branch at RDU airport, the perfect spot to grab a bowl of seafood bisque while waiting for a flight.
