This Phil Stefani restaurant (think Tuscany) is several degrees removed from Italian. Steaks and seafood are the thrust of the menu, which waffles between Prime rib-eye and Dover sole, veal chops and farm-raised salmon. The atmosphere is pleasing, with mahogany floors, tile, stainless steel and tablecloths. Caesar salad takes on a classic look (the romaine is laid lengthwise on an oval platter) and proves delicious. Try the porterhouse steak or blackened shrimp for great flavor in a bowl (bypass the grilled swordfish and the strip steak). Desserts may present a glum situation---tasteless ricotta cheesecake and an almond-thyme tart that doesn’t fare much better. Service is pleasant and speedy. Stay away from a seat too close to the bar if you want to hear yourself think. |
