THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED 44 Restaurant Review:
When it first opened, the Royalton hotel's in-house eatery defined cool. And though 44 still has flair, it's now something of a standby for media types working in the area and theatergoers. Claude Troisgros, of the Blue Door at Ian Schrager's Delano Hotel in Miami, consulted on the menu, which features his contemporary-French-with-a-tropical-twist trademark. Dishes might include pan-roasted shrimp with eggplant caviar and a cumin-and-citrus balsamic reduction, and curry-flavored veal loin with basmati rice and dried fruit. Try the Baby Blue prix-fixe for $55. Like 44's medium-priced wines, the guests arrive from the four corners of the globe; so if you miss your curtain, you can always spend the evening people-watching in the lobby, where sophisticates still congregate, propped on pillows on the steps.
