50 Friends Restaurant Review:

Location, location, location: Smack in the center of the neighborhood’s Via Veneto-like strip along Avenida Emilio Castelar, 50 Friends is an optimal outpost for Polanco people-watching. The menu features a nice selection of pastas, but if you’re wary of too much creamy sauce, skip the fusilli alla vodka in favor of the ravioli with ricotta, tomato and parsley, lightly dressed in olive oil. Or maybe stick to the pizzas, the restaurant’s claim to fame that seems to be the real crowd-pleaser, served hot and gourmet-like from brick ovens---and consequently quite superior to typical D.F. pies. The classic pizza margherita is crispy and rich, even without an overload of cheese, and the grilled veggie pie is a bountiful option for health-conscious types. That said, at times the food and service feel like an afterthought, taking a back seat to the sleek décor and sleeker clientele. But if the sun is shining and there’s time for a second bottle of wine, there are few more pleasant and sexy spots than this.
