THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES 609 Restaurant & U Lounge Restaurant Review:
Expect the unexpected: 609 is the restaurant, and U the lounge, in this former bakery and bike shop. Appealing primarily but not exclusively to the young, the modern décor shows cool Eastern restraint, unlike the DJ-driven music and extensive martini list in the lounge. For dinner, older couples mix with students from nearby Washington University and try to decide between pot stickers with a soy-chili sauce or five-spiced pork tenderloin with mashed sweet potatoes and satay sauce. The food shows evidence of thought, but execution seems hesitant, with spicing less assertive than it could (and should) be. The dessert selection is quite extensive, and all are made in-house, so almost any carbophile can find something to please, whether it's the sweet rice with mango or exotic ice cream of the week. Afterward, retire to the lounge and investigate the hookahs.
