610 Magnolia Restaurant Review

: Thanks to his “Iron Chef America” victory, 610 Magnolia chef-owner Edward Lee has become better known nationally. That hasn’t changed the successful formula at 610, where the three- or four-course prix-fixe dinners (with matched wines from the extensive, international cellar) are based on available ingredients and the chef’s creativity. Three small, savory bites (seafood, vegetable, cured meat, a tiny soup cup are all possible) begin the meal, accompanied by sparkling wine. The salad course could be leafy greens or shaved root vegetables or even a vegetable terrine. Among entrées may be pan-roasted snapper with razor clams and parsley root, pork loin and roasted spaghetti squash, and a trio of game birds (pheasant, quail, duck) served with wheat berries and cauliflower. An artisan cheese plate is accompanied by a glass of port. Desserts can feature unexpected combinations, such as the foie gras sponge cake with roasted fig purée and almond-brown sugar crumble. Seating is limited in the intimate dining room so reservations need to be made well in advance, especially since no matter what time you arrive the table is yours for the evening.
