7 Portes Restaurant Review:

Established in 1836, 7 Portes --- one of Barcelona’s oldest and most loved restaurants --- is famed for its old-world charm and rice, seafood and meat dishes. White-coated waiters waltz through this large open space, where dark wood panelling, antique photos, drawings, mirrors and intricate tiling create a warm and inviting atmosphere of yesteryear. Start with a bowl of the 7 Portes monkfish soup or spinach with pine nuts and raisins before feasting on seafood platters of crab, cockles, langoustines, clams and oysters, and sizzling pans of paella with chicken, pork, cuttlefish, chorizo, lobster and prawns. We also recommend the grilled beef chop with pimientos de padrón and the Galician veal with roasted peppers. And with what is considered by many to be the oldest wine cellar in Barcelona, the extensive wine menu offers the best vintages from Catalonia and the rest of Spain. Its caves are especially good with the fish paella dishes. The dessert menu offers essential selections including rum and raisin flan and “Paco's Special Ice-Cream Dessert,” which is vanilla ice cream with caramel, cream and crumbled almond nougat turron.
