THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Aamchi Pao Restaurant Review:
Capitalizing on America’s increasing love of all things street food while bringing something unique to New York, this six-table West Village eatery serves up variations of pao, better understood as Indian sliders. These tiny Mumbai burgers, which can also be ordered as a kati roll (an Indian burrito of sorts), come in veggie or meat options and are liberally doused with Indian spices such as ginger, chili, mint and cumin. The spinach lentil tikki, a thick spinach patty topped with chili mayonnaise, and the achari chicken, tandoori fowl with mint yogurt and mango chutney, are standouts. So are the sides: crispy, lightly spiced fries and spicy chili-laced cauliflower. It almost tastes as good as what one would find walking down the street in Mumbai.
