| Located in the tranquil setting of Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa, the elegant yet unpretentious Adobe El Restaurante serves seasonal California fare. The menu highlights seafood and locally grown produce. The sautéed diver scallops “marmitako” pairs seared shellfish with piquillo peppers, preserved lemons and an onion-fennel puff pastry tart. The freshwater langoustine (to be eaten New Orleans style---i.e. by sucking the head) floats in a light curry broth and is accented with pistou and Manchego cheese. Toasted cumin overpowers the marinated beet salad, but we do like the melted Brie and candied nut pairing. Chef Jesse Frost removes the molten short rib meat from the bone, molds and sears it, then serves it with earthy, crisp garbanzo fries, mashed potatoes and pearl onions. Other deftly prepared entrées include pan-roasted bass with garlic-chorizo crust, bay scallop ravioli and fava beans as well as the filet mignon with porcini crust, garlic tomato confit and Manchego gratin. |
