THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Aigre Doux Restaurant Review:

"Fun fine dining" may sound like an oxymoron, but that's exactly what you'll get Mohammad Islam and Malika Ameen’s buzzing boîte. The husband and wife chefs-owners behind the River North venture have the cred to back up the fine-dining part, too, having both worked at The Ritz-Carlton Chicago and L.A.'s hip hangout Château Marmont. The table linens, china and stemware, and sophisticated space up the ante. But Aigre Doux also has a more informal side, from the comfortable, come-as-you-are dress code to the friendly service. Then there's the menu, which features both foodie-caliber items---Green City Market green garlic soup---and more casual fare like wood-fired pizzas and crispy shrimp fritters with honey-tangerine marmalade. Not surprisingly, given the restaurant’s name, sweet and savory flavor profiles run rampant; find success in the pistachio-crusted lamb with tangy caponata. Both sensibilities come together with Ameen's desserts, too, which include sticky toffee pudding with khadrawy dates and Devonshire cream sorbet. Things get even more relaxed in the front bar area, another dining option, which has chefs' hangout written all over it. It's a great place to sample off-the-beaten-path vinos and interesting craft liquors.
